Vendor Pop Up: Joanne Van Genderen Art

Jay St. Collective 135 Jay Street, Schenectady, NY

Stop into Jay St Collective Saturday May 21st and Sunday May 22nd to shop the gorgeous and unique mix media art of Joanne Van Genderen. Artist Bio: My art explores the beauty of impermanence and change. Through this exploration, I imagine the possibilities of new beginnings and well as the mysteries of the old and decayed. As a mixed media artist, I enjoy the freedom to use a variety of materials and techniques. My art assemblages come to life through a process of reimagining found objects, particularly worn, frayed, and rusty elements. A great deal of my creative life is spent looking for interesting objects that can be taken apart, rearranged, or combined with other materials. As a piece of art comes together, so does it’s story. I encourage my viewers to take a second or even third look at a piece of interest and challenge themselves to reinterpret their initial narrative. Things are often not what they seem to be on first glance. My art studio is in the quiet village of Scotia, NY. You can find more of my work at my website www.joannevangenderen.com or on Instagram at instagram.com/alternativeartworks710/

Vendor Pop Up: Kossack Art

Jay St. Collective 135 Jay Street, Schenectady, NY

Shop the dynamic colors and textures of Kossack Art ceramics. These pieces will be available in store Saturday May 28th and Sunday May 29th. Artist Bio: Natalie Kossack makes functional pottery intended for everyday use. Natalie has been working with clay for more than 10 years. She currently resides in Delmar, New York and teaches pottery classes at The Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy. When she’s not making pots, she enjoys hiking and traveling with her husband and two young sons. "I have always had a deep love and reverence for handmade objects, and for me, pottery is the perfect intersection of art and function. I work primarily on the potter’s wheel, making utilitarian forms intended for everyday use. My work is inspired by traditional forms intended to stand the test of time, but I am always playing with new techniques and styles. I love that clay offers an endless array of opportunities to experiment with form, surface, and function. Most recently, I have discovered the meditative nature of carving clay. I am drawn to the repetition of marks and how simple lines can create a beautiful and complex surface. I love to think of my pottery being used all over the country and sincerely hope it brings joy to all those that use it."
